RSTO raises money to help victims of the Japan Earthquake21st March 2011On March the 18th 2011 RSTO held a cake sale fundraising event to raise money to help the victims of the Japan earthquake and Tsunami. Having watched the sad events unfold one after the other following the magnitude 9 earthquake that struck the North East of Japan on Friday the 11th of March, a few of us at RSTO decided to hold a fundraising event to raise money. With a wealth of culinary skills in the business, we rounded up volunteers to bake delicious cakes and sweets to sell to the rest of our sweet toothed workforce.
We raised a grand total of £275.96, which is to be split between The British Red Cross and Save the Children. Both of these charities were among the first to arrive to the stricken areas and continue to do amazing work in such tragic circumstances. The British Red Cross is donating all monies collected through their Japan Emergency Appeal to The Japanese Red Cross, so the money will go directly to those who need it most. Japanese Red Cross workers are treating the injured, providing psychological support and distributing relief items to victims of the Earthquake and Tsunami. Save the Children taking care of the needs of children affected by the disaster. Many of them will have become separated from their families. Save the Children provide support to parents and children who are struggling to cope in the aftermath of the disaster. We’d like to say a big thank you to all our volunteers for taking the time to bake and also to everyone who purchased items on the day. |
